Founded in 1986, Shire is a fast-growing global specialty biopharmaceutical company with 2008 revenues of $3 billion and over 3,500 employees worldwide.  A global leader working to meet the needs of the specialist physician and the patients they serve, Shire today has a presence in 23 countries and medicines available in nearly 40 countries.  We focus on the therapeutic areas of attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), gastrointestinal (GI), and genetic disorders.  Encouraging our employees to be innovative, to take measured risks, and to act on the needs of our patients help define Shire and our people.

Our operation is structured in two complementary businesses - Human Genetic Therapies (HGT), and Specialty Pharmaceuticals - that are each supported by various corporate functions.  Our HGT team specializes in researching, developing, and commercializing therapies for the treatment of rare genetic diseases caused by protein deficiencies.  Shire's Specialty Pharmaceuticals team is made up currently of three business units - ADHD, GI, and Emerging Products.  This team also oversees many other marketed medicines approved to help people around the world.
